The Jalon Valley & The Costa Blanca
A region covered in orange groves, almond trees and grape vines, the
Jalon Valley offers delightful views and fabulous wine tasting! The
Moorish influence left over from their 5 century rule is still very
apparent, from the terraced landscapes to the local fiestas where Moors
and Christians stage dramatic fights on the beaches.
The local village of Murla is
just a few
kilometers away and is a traditional and sleepy small village
where fresh bread is available every morning. The slighter larger local
villages of Parcent, Orba and Alcalali offer local stores, tapas
bars,
bodegas and resturants.
Jalon is the
largest local village with
an excellent Saturday market full of unusual antiques, local crafts and
other traditional stalls.
The Costa Blanca has a variety
of beaches, the closest, Denia,
being
just a 20 minute drive away.
Denia's 16th century castle sits
proudly above the town and offers a fascinating insight into the
turbulent history of the area. Watersports are very popular along the
15km of sandy beaches and fiestas are celebrated here throughout the
year.
Calpe boasts the
spectacular Penon
Ifach, although this is a tough 332 meter high hike that should not be
attemped in the midday sun. Calpe is very popular with holiday makers
who enjoy the shopping and amenities in the town.
Javea is split
into 3 very attractive
areas, the old town, the beach and the port. The coast line is stunning
and extends into the Montgo national park, whilst the town and port
offer boutiques and excellent restaurants that are busy throughout the
year.
